Europe has a leading position in eco-innovation patents and emerging technologies. Although the EU achieves a remarkably high annual growth rate of 16% in eco-innovation, transfer to SMEs is rather low.
To enhance the greening of the European economy, the transformation of scientific research into self-sustaining market products is a key factor, one of the great challenges in any market economy. Barriers such as language and accessibility to information hinder an effective uptake of eco-innovations across Europe.

To bridge this gap, the ECOWEB online platform has been developed within the EcoWeb project; to help businesses and researchers interact. ECOWEB is a smart online platform which gathers over 3.000 eco-innovations, including technologies, applications, products, patents, processes and other solutions.

As the Coordinator of the ECOWEB project Georg Melzer says: “Take-up of EU funded research has always been a challenge. ECOWEB will actively promote top EU research and make it visible. Knowledge that has been locked away in separate websites will be pushed through existing networks and turned into products”.

ECOWEB is a new tool that brings research to realisation. It aims to increase the development and uptake of eco-innovations. Therefore, ECOWEB presents up-to-date information on eco-innovations in a user-friendly way and provides contact data of the project partners.

Project vision of the ECOWEB team: “What makes ECOWEB platform unique is the customised display of information leading to relevant results and the compromise to create a sustainable platform after project end with search functionalities for free.”
The platform will be online at least until 2016 with continuously updated information.

PROJECT GOALS:

EcoWeb will collect and make accessible results and information available on FP6, FP7, CIP and Life+ projects in the area of Eco-Innovation through an innovative online platform: ECOWEB.

ECOWEB is a platform that connects EU-funded eco-innovations with enterprises, researchers and multipliers.
In addition, the project team will engage existing European networks and organisations to spread the word on ECOWEB to European SMEs.
The final ECOWEB online platform. ECOWEB is a smart online platform which gathers over 3.000 eco-innovations, including technologies, applications, products, patents, processes and other solutions. A tool supporting development and marketing of eco-innovation. It aims to increase the development and uptake of eco-innovations. Therefore, ECOWEB presents up-to-date information on eco-innovations [...]
